The reason why some Andaman Sea dive destinations are exceptional is because they have been cut of from the rest of the world for decades. Because of of political reasons Myanmar didn't allow any foreigners into their waters since the 196x and also India blocked off all islands in their sector of the ocean. 

Until recently only the Malaysian and Thai part was accessible, this is changing now after the country slowly opens up. But there is still a big hurdle because they still insist on visas issued by an consulate not as elsewhere at the border.

Diving spots close to the island are around Rachai Yai and Noi, the Phi-Phi islands and the Similans plus a bit further to the north the Surin Islands which 200 km towards Ranong.

There continues to Kawthaung which is the center of south Myanmar but the infrastructure is not good. Actually if someone wants to do a underwater exploration into the Mergui archipelago it needs to book a live-aboard trip starting in Phuket. They offer journeys with sailing ships and excellent motor yachts, as you can imagine it won’t come cheap but is an unforgettable float into one of the most pretty and untouched parts of the world.

Actually many of them look better than women but there are still differences especially in the behavior they quickly can lose self-control and that could get very nasty.

Usual places to meet them are many places in Pattaya, Soi Crocodile in Patong Phuket, Patpong  and  Nana Plaza in Bangkok and plenty other locations. Usually they work at go-go bars and lounges; they love foreigner or "farang" very much because they think that’s an easy prey. If they can’t get what they want the put some drops into the beer get the guy unconscious and all valuables disappear. Don’t take this easy, it happen every day.

In Bangkok popular places to meet them are between Surawong and Silom Road at Thaniya Plaza, Patpong one and two, Nana Plaza, Soi Cowboy, and countless bars and nightclubs along Sukhumvit.

Hat Yai is probably the most important city in the southern Andaman Sea. From there the ocean can be accessed to the west with Ko Tarutao, Lipe and over 40 other islands plus to the east via the harbor city of Songkhla which is just about 50 km off.

When the Indian Ocean gets rough several ferry boats boats which are usually long-tail variants sink every years only in 2013 the Thai took the initiative and made lifewests mandatory on the trip between the two countries. Actually on the Thai side the follow the rule now on the Myanmar they don't.

This longtail boats are flimsy constructions and since the waves easily reach up to around 3 meters there is a Andaman Rodeo waiting.

When the Thai visa expires hop on a bus and take a boat for a ride through the Thai - Myanmar Andaman Sea and get a new one. That needs a day trip to Kawthaung via Ranong where at the small office at the jetty they stamp the exit into the passport After a hour longtail boat drive and a few minutes at the Myanmar border office people return and get a new visa. The little problem is that all border stamps issued there are only valid for 2 weeks, when coming in at a international airport the validity is 4 weeks.

They don't ask questions but it would be wise not to use always the same border crossing otherwise they might start questioning after the fifth time. For a three month visa the best is to travel to Penang a get it a the consulate there. To both destinations yours are offered which means a one day trip to Kawthaung and a one night trip to Georgetown Penang in Malaysia.

There is quite a lot to see on the journey

such as this monkeys which they carry to different places to pick up coconuts. The trained animal is on a leach, it climb up the palm tree and turns the coconut until it falls down

On the way are mosques, pagodas, monasteries and spirit shrines pretty built often with bright colors and flowers around. In this part of the country is no trouble between people of different faith everyone respects the other it's quite different to the war-thorn eastern provinces on the border to Malaysia. 

Currently (May 13.14.) the government impost a "clampdown" on tourists, they don't want that you make a visa, you are requested to travel to one of the neighboring countries and get a tourist visa.

The bridge is the only road connection from the island to the rest of the country. In the front are some fish breading set up and in the center back is the Yacht Heaven Marina the only one on the island which can handle super-yachts.

The real interesting stuff on this journey are the scenes along the coast

which show a real beautiful tropical countryside of dark green of the plants and emerald shades of the Andaman Sea.
